7 Month Update

Roan had his belated 6-month check up today. He's 18lbs 6oz (2oz down from his last appointment when he was sick, but the doctor said that's nothing to worry about) and 27.5'' long! They didn't tell us the percentiles and I don't feel like trying to look it up, haha. Not right now, anyway.

We asked about him not eating lately and the doctor said it's a minor set-back and should get better soon. He said his 2nd tooth is on it's way through! We should expect it in the next day or so. I think that's why he's not eating and the doc said that's possible.

Seriously, Roan spoils us. Even though he's teething, he's continued to sleep through the night. Even last night although he threw up all the oatmeal and his whole bottle right before bed. He was starving when he woke up, though!

His next check-up is April 2nd...a week before he turns 9 months, but since he's not getting shots, I guess it doesn't really matter.

In other news...I made homemade teething cookies. Adults can eat them, too (with coffee), and he seemed to like them. Well, for a while. He'd just had a bottle, so he enjoyed it for a few minutes, then he was done.

And just for fun, more pictures:

This was from earlier today. Totally asleep :)

First Craft, First Girlfriend?!

How Roan is Doing

Roan is finally feeling better! So happy about that! His rash is basically gone...I seriously hated seeing his poor face just covered in those red spots.

He made his first craft at daycare :) They put the kids in the exersaucer with paper under their feet & they "feet painted"! Then they cut it out into a heart shape. It's hanging up in the hallway at daycare right now. They said Roan was kinda weirded out by the feeling of paint on his feet, haha.

So, we think Roan has his first girlfriend! There's a little girl in the nursery who's walking...she's actually going to be moving up to the next room soon. But when I dropped him off today, she walked right over to him in his car seat and they both had huge smiles on their faces! Sean said he's noticed that they get really excited when they see each other, too. The ladies in the nursery haven't said anything about them playing together a lot or anything, but I thought it was cute :)

How Mom is Doing...

Down 8lbs thanks to Weight Watchers! I gotta kick it up, though, because I don't feel like my belly area is shrinking and that's the main thing I need to shrink. I didn't have an inhaler for weeks, then when I finally got one, our Xbox broke...which means no Your Shape. I was feeling pretty good this morning about my progress...then a 3rd grader asked if I was pregnant and told me I looked like I was. Not even an hour later, another 3rd grader said I looked like I just had a baby. Yeah, I know they're kids...and it definitely doesn't sting or offend like it would if they were adults. But it still does kinda stink. Kids call it like it is. Oh well, moving on.

How Dad is Doing...

Working, working, working! And we're not complaining. They're waiting to hear if a property accepts their bid that would give them 6ish weeks of work. So we're crossing our fingers and praying they accept it.

Sick, Sick, Sick

It all started with Roan throwing up at daycare on Friday the 27th. I got him right in to the doctor and they saw an ear infection (left ear only) and a throat infection, which the doctor suspected was the reason for him throwing up. He prescribed Amoxicilin. I knew he was really not feeling well because he fell asleep on me while waiting for the doctor.

Things seemed to be going alright until Wednesday when he woke with a 100.6 fever...plus he threw up at about 7:35, so I kept him home. I did call the doctor and the nurse gave me some things to look for and recommended scheduling a 1pm appointment for the next day in case he had a bad night. Thankfully, he never threw up again.

By Wednesday night, the fever reached 102. Bama gave him Tylenol before bed (she watches him Wednesday nights). We have an Angelcare monitor (detects movement), but I still checked on him a few times because he felt so warm, I wanted to make sure the Tylenol was actually getting the fever down. He was in a pretty thick sleep sac, but I wondered if that would help the fever go down. I took him out of it and it seemed to help.

Then he woke up at 1am. And I'm guessing about every 3 hours after that. Sean kinda took over after 4am because I'd gotten about 2 hours of sleep since I couldn't fall back asleep after his 1am wake-up.

At 9:45 today, his fever was up to 102 again, so I gave him Tylenol and called the doctor. He was really, really tired...which was probably due to not sleeping well, but I couldn't tell if he was lethargic or just tired. But the nurse said to keep the 1pm appointment and they'd check for dehydration.

His mood at the doctor's office was quite different this time!

He was actually smiling a lot, but those pics were blurry because he was moving so much.
I thought Great, he's gonna make a liar out of me. But the doctor was really understanding...she calls it "The Doorknob Syndrome". Sick kids are sick  and well kids are well until you touch that door handle and open the door to the office, then the sick kids' symptoms disappear and the well kids start showing symptoms.

She said his ears looked great. His temp was 98.9; though she suspected that was from the Tylenol. She recommended a change in antibiotics, so that's what we're doing. She said it'll take 24-48 hours for his temp to normalize.

Still, he does seem better today. I feel like my boy is back. Well, almost. Hopefully he'll sleep better tonight, though. And hopefully he won't get sick again cause this one is using up all my sick time! Glad I didn't use any of that during my maternity leave.

Poor Little Sicky Bean

How Roan is Doing...

You can just see in his face that he wasn't feeling well.
Our Keane-y Bean has been sick. Thankfully, he seems worlds better today, so it looks like this thing was short-lived.

While I've enjoyed my 2 days off work home with him, I haven't enjoyed that he's been sick. He has been a little more fussy, but nothing unbearable. I feel like I have more patience for fussiness when he's sick. Plus, I still think he's teething, and that helps my patience, too. Poor guy can't help it! I know how bad a tooth ache hurts for an adult...let alone being an infant who can't speak yet!

How Mom is Doing...

4lbs down thanks to Weight Watchers! Not bad for my first 2 weeks. I haven't been working out, though because my inhaler ran out and I have to figure out how to get one. I did realize that I can still do yoga, though...it's the cardio & stuff that gets you moving that makes me have an attack. I'm not gonna lie, I've been putting off doing yoga. I've got to tonight or sometime today! It's hard to find the time because I have to do it when Sean is either not home or asleep because I use the Kinect to do it...and Roan has to either be asleep or right after a feeding (so hopefully he won't get fussy 5 minutes into my workout).

How Dad is Doing...
Yes, Roan is under that blanket...it wasn't over his face for long :) Plus, Rosie was supervising.
Work has picked up again for Sean...for this week, anyway. He worked something like 4 or 5 days in two weeks. Not so good. It would have been kinda nice for Roan to get sick one of those weeks so I didn't have to use up sick time...but this is what sick time is for (well, one reason); that's why I didn't use any sick time during my leave.

We went to a friend's house this past Saturday for a birthday party. I knew about it for a while, but it was a last-minute thing for Sean. The girls surprised my friend Kristen at PF Changs and then everyone (husbands included) went to her & her husband's house for drinks and dessert. It was nice to get out and be around adults in a non-work setting! I think Sean needed it more than me. We've been fortunate enough to have family to watch Roan pretty much whenever we need someone...we haven't had a problem yet. We're so grateful :)

Half A Year!

How Roan is Doing...

I can't believe Roan is half a year old!

We've been saying for a while now that we think he's teething. I still think he is. About a week before he turned 6 months old, he started having trouble sleeping...naps and bedtime became a struggle. The same thing happened at daycare, too. Actually, it kinda started when he started daycare. He had that cold...he literally got over it right before his first day at daycare. It just feels like he's been a little "off" since that cold started. He's still happy 90% of the time, though! Really, if he is teething, then it's not all that bad.

He "talks" a lot! Mostly "Ba-ba-ba-ba...da-da-da-da..." I keep trying to get him to say "Ma-ma-ma-ma", but he's not catching on, haha. He will someday, I know.

How Mom is Doing...

I've joined Weight Watchers. I was trying to just "eat healthy", but WW has shown me that the things I was eating I thought were healthy...really weren't. Actually, most of it is portion size. Most days, I've been under my point goal (not by a lot, but still)...not because I'm starving myself, but I try to eat as little points as possible during the day, so I can snack more if I'm hungry in the evening (though I have limited my snacking before bed).

It was hard at first, but I've actually noticed a slight decrease in appetite...or maybe it's just that I'm more satisfied since I'm eating better? And drinking more water; that helps.

In sadder news, I think I'm getting carpel tunnel...which will severely limit, if not destroy, my crocheting.
How Dad is Doing...

Work has been slow, so he's been getting things done around the house. Roan went to daycare for half the day most days last week.

He's also picked up another guitar student...that makes 2 right now. It makes for a long Tuesday night without him, but the money helps.

Sean said he doesn't mind me only cooking WW meals. He wants to eat healthier anyway. That definitely makes the meal planning easier for me! Though a lot of the recipes I've tried so far are smaller, so I may have to double some of them in the future.

First Day at Day Care

Well, we I survived. I knew Roan would...I know he was in good hands. How I was going to handle it emotionally was another thing all together.

Dropping him off wasn't that bad. Sean came with me. I just felt a little overwhelmed by everything - making sure I'd brought everything, putting it in the right place, etc. I labeled some stuff wrong, so I felt bad about that. Hopefully they understand it's my first time doing this.

I didn't cry until I got to work. All it took was walking in the room and Denise saying "We're so glad you're back!" It was still just the mixed emotions...missing Roan and wishing I could be with him, but I'd also missed my coworkers. I actually didn't cry the rest of the day.

He was just fine when I visited around noon. He was in a Bumbo, reaching for a toy on the floor, grunting because he couldn't reach it. I tried getting his attention with my voice, but he was so focused on the toy, he didn't notice. I tapped his hand and he looked up, gave me a half smile, and then it was right back to the toy! I was glad that seeing me didn't send him into a panic, but it also made me sad for him to apparently not be all that excited to see me.

They said he'd slept 2 hours that morning and was doing really well. "He's such a happy baby!" they said. I think that's why I didn't cry again...I knew he was doing ok. Had he had a rough morning, I would have definitely cried more.

He was fine when I went to pick him up, too. They commented on how cute he was and what a good day he had. That helped immensely!

I'm hoping it won't take too long to get used to it and it won't be as much of an ordeal getting out of the house in the morning. Ha!
